Still trying to figure out what to do for Mom this Sunday? What better way to spend some time with her than at the 39th Annual Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour  this weekend, May 12th and 13th ? You and mom can travel between the gorgeous historic homes on  mini coaches, or  horse-drawn carriages. Food and beverages will be provided in Savage Park by Penne Pomodoro and other local eateries.

And in order to get the day really started off right, there will be a Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch in Savage Park on Sunday from 11AM to 2PM.

Ebby’s Lakewood office is sponsoring the grand home at 5303 Swiss Avenue. The home’s exterior showcases a Classical Greek design and it was the first house ever to be built on Swiss Avenue, constructed in 1905, the same year that the neighborhood was founded by Robert S. Munger.

Brunch tickets are $20 per person and can be reserved by calling 214.701.3396. Home Tour tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the weekend of the event and can be purchased at any area Whole Foods Market, Talulah Belle in Lakewood or on the website.

Happy Mother’s Day Weekend to all the moms out there!

Ebby Halliday, Realtors welcomed patients from Children’s Medical Center on Wednesday night to help light up the famous Ebby Halliday office at Northwest Highway and Preston Road.  The children joined Ebby herself as the crowd counted down to the lighting of the iconic office for the first time this year.  Of course, no house lighting is complete without a visit from Santa Claus – and Jolly old Saint Nick arrived in style on the back of a white Jaguar convertible.

Following the house lighting, the children joined Santa and Ebby inside to take photos and talk about their greatest Christmas wishes this season.

Ebby Halliday, REALTORS is a proud sponsor of the 24th Annual Children’s Medical Center parade set to take place in downtown Dallas this Saturday, December 3rd.  The Little White House office and the Ebby Allen Office are also both serving as drop off locations for the public to donate items to the Child Life Department at Children’s.

To learn more about the parade as well as a full wish list of items from the Child Life Department, visit ebby.com/childrens.

The following op-ed piece written by Ebby first appeared in The Dallas Morning News on November 25, 2008.  We thought it would be appropriate to repost today.  Here’s wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving from The Ebby Halliday Family of Companies.

Most of you who are reading this do not remember the Great Depression in the 1930s, but I am a product of it. It was a hard time that saw many good people flounder and fall, giving up because they could not find a job, a way to support their families or themselves.

However, many lifted themselves by trying and trying again, no matter how deep they fell. Those of us lucky enough to have jobs were not only grateful for them but learned the wisdom of thrift and the art of preserving things. It was a time when families were broken, but equally a time when families grew stronger bonds because they learned the beauty of sharing.

Many of us found that the person in rags on the corner was a former neighbor, and so we opened our rather empty pockets to help, often with uplifting words as well as material things. It was a time when children learned to play with little but their imagination.

Today, trying times are upon us again, hopefully not as deep and lasting as those of the Great Depression. But now is our time to test ourselves. Some will learn how to do with fewer comforts, and others will have even less. Many will not be able to travel this Thanksgiving.

Let’s ask ourselves: Has our cup been half-full or half-empty? Are we ready for what comes next? Is our “place” in order? Our “place” may be a hut, a mansion or no dwelling at all. But how we feel about our presence — our place in the world — is very important.

Do we feel entitled to live carefree lives? Do we deserve to have things our way, always? Have we given enough to our communities to create an environment, a “neighborhood” of acceptance of our fellow human beings?

Dallas may have escaped the worst of the housing and economic storms thus far. But hidden inside our statistics are families who are in need, often not of their own making. They can be found in every neighborhood. Do we owe them any assistance?

Over 200 years ago, Albigence Waldo, a surgeon at Valley Forge, said, “Mankind is never truly thankful for the benefits of life until they have experienced the want of them.”

Yes, many will not travel this Thanksgiving. But did you know there are places right here that offer a meaningful way to spend your time? I suggest our own great treasure, Thanks-Giving Square, in downtown Dallas. The wise founders of this unique place chose “thanksgiving” as its core because it is a virtue and a tradition for people of all faiths and cultures.

Come learn about America’s founders who, through thanksgiving, wrought victory out of defeat, forged unity out of diversity and healed the wounds of untold hurts — while remaining true to their own beliefs. Discover how clergy in Dallas gave thanks together more than 100 years ago when others dared not even try.

Come with your family and your friends. Come, have your children and grandchildren jump and shout in the center of the Ring of Thanks. Walk up to the chapel and the breathtaking stained-glass window as it lifts you from the mundane to the sublime.

Answer challenging times with your own challenge. List all the reasons you have to be grateful and find a way to make someone else’s life better. And, for those of you who can afford it, leave a token of thanks to the square, so that it will continue to bring access to a place of thought, joy, solace and gratitude all the days of the year.

Looing for a fun event to attend this weekend?  Check out the 35th Annual Lakewood Home Festival November 11-13.

Hosted by the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA), the Lakewood Home Festival is a community-wide event that raises funds for Lakewood Elementary School, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School.  The funds directly benefit students through the purchase of school materials, computers and enrichment programs as well as the International Baccalaureate program.  Last year’s Home Festival raised approximately $144,000.

“We are thrilled with the homes on tour this year as well as 60-plus unique local vendors at our market,” said Lori Volney, 2011-12 LECPTA President. “We could not make this event possible without the hundreds of volunteers that run this event.”

In addition to touring the Lakewood homes, visitors can shop at the Holiday Market, sponsored by the Ebby Lakewood office, located at Lakewood Elementary.  The Holiday Market will feature more than 60 local artists, a Café featuring Penne Pomodoro, and is the location of the Auction Party on Friday night, November 11.  This year’s Auction Party theme is a Jimmy Buffet tribute: “Lakewoodville: ‘Livin’ in Paradise’.”

Come experience a weekend full of community traditions, neighborhood support, and camaraderie.  Tickets for the Lakewood Home Festival are sold at Lakewood Elementary School, located at 3000 Hillbrook, Tom Thumb (21 locations), White Rock Coffee, The T Shop, The Corner Market, and Mockingbird Florist as well as at each tour home during the event.
